(71 coins total)... They were in a old mason jar buried about 9 inches down...Needless to say I broke the jar with my gator before I even knew what I had found...? It was a very interesting cache with American and foreign coins...Sorry about the pic, not that great of quality, but it was done fairly quickly. The newest and oldest are in red, so this jar had been in the ground since at least 1953...

It included the following:

(2) 1941 Standing Liberty Halfs
(1) 1953 Franklin Half
(4) Merc's 24,42,43,45
(3) Barber Dimes 06,07,14
(4) Indian Cents 75,82,90,99
(6) Liberty Nickels 10,10,03,03,02,08
(1) Shield Nickel w/Rays 1867
(24) Buffalo Nickels Various dates (20-30's)
(2) Canadian 5 Cents 1880,1910
(1) Canadian Dime 1870
(1) One Penny Bank Token - Upper Bank of Canada 1852
(1) Empire Francais Dix Centimes - Napoleon III Empereur 1856
(21) Canadian One Cent - 1859,76,88,1900,1902,1907.? 1909-1920 (10,12,17,20 dups)

Happy Hunting!!

Re: CACHE Upate with PIC

Found this at a local lake I detect at quite a bit.. The lake had homes and hotels all around it back in the late 1800's up to about the 1950's... The City of Rochester(NY) bought up all the land and booted all the people off it and now use it for water supply.. it is all wilderness around the 7 mile long lake with lots of old foundations etc. - I basically have been working my way down the lake looking for any visible signs of old foundations (The lake had 4 hotels, I have only been able to find out the location of one.) Sat. (Oct. 15th) I found an old stone breakwall on shore (obviously from a old residence) and starting detecting around it and back up into the woods... after about 20 minutes of detecting with no hits I got a "large object" hit (My Fisher makes a very unusual sound for larger metallic objects)...I almost did not dig the hit, but due to it's location I was curious what it was...so at about 9 inches my gator hit glass...for a second I could not tell what it was until I pulled out a large shard of glass. There it was!! The motherload! The jar was lying horizontal full of coins!!. You should have seen the smile on my face!! Usually my GF comes along with me and is the digger, but she had to work, so I had nobody to celebrate with!!!

Re: CACHE Upate with PIC

You found my cache! Not really I buried a fruit jar with American and foriegn coins in the early fifty's using a post hole digger and I went deep.I thought I could go back later and find it.Unfortunatily I didn't consider that my grandfather and father used this area to use as a foundry with lots of scrape iron and aluminum.I also buried it close to a peach tree, which was later cut down.I search this area in the 80's and all I could find was scrape iron.Go figure!

Re: CACHE Upate with PIC

Now that it an awesome find! One of the best I've seen on this or any other forum! You should write this up and submit it to one of the Treausre or Detector mags! Great job!!

Re: CACHE Upate with PIC

This is the kind of story that keeps my hunting partner and myself out there looking and digging. Congratulations and thanks for the story.

Re: CACHE Upate with PIC

EXCELLENT. I would be heading back there to see if some more can be found. Usually they would bury one with certain coins and then another with other coins and then one with the bills in it. If the lids are still giving a signal then you may find some nice silver notes and the like. Good Luck and thanks for sharing the story.HH
