That's the first "cache" I have found. Inside of the box there was a student ID, it belongs to a 6th grade girl. I found it by the swings, about 3-4 inches down. I will attempt to return it since there was an id.

the ring and other stuff were all found in like 20 minutes. there were alot more signals. I will have to go back there!

Go through the guidance counselor. That way you don't get locked up for trying to talk to a 6th grade girl. Also see if the counselor will find out what she was saving up for. It is unusual for a kid to stash money away from home.

Cool find. Your heart must have been thumping when you heard the coinage.

actually, i have a friend who works in the district, i'll probably just have him return it. last thing i need is trouble like that!

I found one similar to that a few summers ago about a foot down in a sand box-type area of an old school. The kid had intentionally buried it as a time capsule with a note. I brought it home, showed my kids, added a couple things and a note of my own. Then I returned it to the ground. Kids are funny. I was more of the treasure seeker, than the cascher when I was a kid. Very cool find. :headbang:

Yeah, don't try to return it yourself. Could you see yourself standing there, yelling to the girl "you want your sugar daddy back?" :laughing7:

Cool find though. :icon_thumright:

If society has gotten to the point that you can't be nice without fear of being ostracised it's time to stop being nice. "IF YOU GIVE UP A LITTLE BIT OF FREEDOM FOR A LITTLE BIT OF JUSTICE YOU DESERVE NEITHER"

:D @ DTP! :D

Very kewl, AZ!! Wonder how long ago she buried it?

Congrats on the finds~ Nana :)

Possibly it was not buried there by its rightful owner.......perhaps it had been taken, and was stashed there until another day.
If she did bury it, then she will bury it again (probably) in a different place.
If she didn't bury it, then she will really appreciate it being given back to her.
And, I think giving it to your friend who works in the school district is the easiest and best way. But, if you didn't have
any friend working in the district, then I wouldn't hesitate to find the girl, and with another adult present, give it personally
back to her. IMHO.

Cool find, and its good to see it getting returned. It would be neat to know why she buried it there.

Neat find! :hello2:

But ... I don't understand your hesitance at returning it. For sure it should be returned to her parents. The school will pass a message on to the parents that you have her I.D. plus some "other" things and they can contact you.

I agree that it's a sad situation. I know a 3rd grade female teacher who has been admonished for hugging her students a few years back. Not sure what the answer is BUT at least for me ... I tend to not worry about my innocence ... I am not afraid.

Just a thought, you could speak to the school and see if you could give a demonstration to her class about metal detecting and then surprise her with it at the end when you show the kids the type of things you find. You might just get a few kids into a hobby besides video games and in the future they would have an interest in history, (and you don't have to worry about getting the rep as a pedophile).
