Ca nwe some first found artifacts? Here's mine
I am a concrete contractor, and 8 or nine years ago, I just got done cutting the ground for some city sidewalk in front of a new house we were doing. My bobcat peeled the dirt off this piece totally exposing it, not even scratching it. nI thought it was a cool looking rock, and like others here, tossed it in my truck and put thousands of miles on it. Then it went into my ice cream pail for a tear or so, and one day while looking at my cool rocks, I noticed this one wasn't quite right. Kinda flat on 2 sides, and round on the other 2. I had assumed it was round all the way around from tumbling down the creek. Well, in 2008 I showed it to a friend of mine that hunted and collected artifacts, and he told me what it was.
So, here you have it, the piece that piqued my interest, and has me going strong yet today. It's over 5 inches long.
The tiny little scratch on the narrow end, I did with a nail after picking it up checking to see if it was pipestone. I did know about pipestone since the town is near here and there were lots of things in use at the time that were made from it. :-)
