Ca nwe some first found artifacts? Here's mine

I am a concrete contractor, and 8 or nine years ago, I just got done cutting the ground for some city sidewalk in front of a new house we were doing. My bobcat peeled the dirt off this piece totally exposing it, not even scratching it. nI thought it was a cool looking rock, and like others here, tossed it in my truck and put thousands of miles on it. Then it went into my ice cream pail for a tear or so, and one day while looking at my cool rocks, I noticed this one wasn't quite right. Kinda flat on 2 sides, and round on the other 2. I had assumed it was round all the way around from tumbling down the creek. Well, in 2008 I showed it to a friend of mine that hunted and collected artifacts, and he told me what it was.

So, here you have it, the piece that piqued my interest, and has me going strong yet today. It's over 5 inches long.

The tiny little scratch on the narrow end, I did with a nail after picking it up checking to see if it was pipestone. I did know about pipestone since the town is near here and there were lots of things in use at the time that were made from it. :-)

I have only seen one of those nicer than the one you have here. It was in a glass case in a museum!! Nice accident! It's funny that in the past couple of days, I've read about rocks in pick up truck beds. Whew! I am so glad to know I'm not crazy. On rainy days, or days that I can't hunt the fields, I hunt my pickup bed. Twitch hunts with me once in a while. We often prop against my truck, talking with no eye contact. Just scanning the rocks in the back of my truck. Lol!

That's a really nice piece of hardstone for a first find.

Here's the first artifact I ever picked up. More than three decades ago. Been hooked ever since.

Here is my first. Its a crude one made from Quartzite. The base is ground down. I still dont know the type on it. Ugly but it was my first so I keep it.

Howdy Quito, Your thread ready got me thinking last night on what was my 1st find. I always thought that it was my 1st bone fish hook that I had picked up some 20 years ago but this morning I opened up the archives and remembered that it was this piece that I have had for over 40 years. Has anyone ever seen anything like it?
