The rumors I was hearing downriver this weekend is that their destination was the Wooley Creek trailhead.
Wooley creek is probably the largest remote place around that area. Very large drainage basin with zero roads till you get to the mouth.

If you were to sit tight and wait for someone to help you (as most people are told to do)...you might be waiting awhile.

Spent the weekend about 10 miles from the mouth of Wooley "creek".

Saw a few search and rescue people at Etna summit, but other than that, it was pretty quiet along the roads.
Did have a sheriff drive in the front yard around 3 AM and swing his spotlight around, which we thought was weird considering there were tents scattered across the property and we had shut things down by midnight.

The son took his GF to one of our mining claims to show her how to pan for gold and ended up with more poison oak than gold.
