C-ement

Mine does too, I think it is because of the steel rebar in the cement??? That is the only thing I can think of.

I don't know what kind of detector you use but I can tell you a way to hunt right beside the sidewalk with re-bar in it.

I hunt with an Ace 250 and I hold the coil right over one of the pieces of re- bar and then push the discriminate button and that will cancel out the re-bar pretty good. It does notch out one bar on the screen but right now I can't remember which one. That will let you hunt very close and will let you find lots more coins. I hope you can use this info with your detector. Best of luck to you.

Ah ha! I didn't know you could do that. I'm going to try that tonight when I go to the park!

Strange you should mention those coal-like rocks. Are they really light in weight and shiny where they are broken? I keep getting signals on them too. Then when I dig them out of the ground, my MD doesn't sound off when I sweep them by the coil. However, the pinpointer continues to sound off when they're out of the ground. Anybody know what these are?

one bar on disc notch -- should cut out iron / rebar is steel /iron the first thing cut out in a notch type machine is iron -- not looking for relics -- notch out (on a notch type machine) or disc out the iron (on a knob type machine)-- its rebar be gone --poof --works like magic--- ;D Ivan

the rock problem is caused "hot rocks" (rocks containing minerals that "ring" up as metal on metal detectors) its the"halo effect" -- which is the minerals that have leeched out of the "hot rocks" into the nearby soil -- that makes the machine "ring" up like its found metal -- however once the rock is dug -- the soil is disturbed enough that the helo effect dissappers --- the rock having leeched out its minerals into the surrounding ground doesn't ring up itself -- thus the magic disappering signal* -- although some times the signal will remain if there enough minerals left undisturbed still in the ground-- hope this helps -- the cure for hot rocks is disc them out if a area has lots of them or a very high mineral content --start low and slowly up the disc till the machine gets its head right but only till then no more-- because the higher the disc the more you lose -- so only enough disc to make the machine stable ---check with a nickle to be sure your disc is not too high if a nickle can be picked up so will the gold -- Ivan
