To make this more amazing, Howie Mandel hugged her, and he won't even let people touch him - he has same "complex" she has....

She Couldn’t Even Get Out of Bed a Few Months Ago — by the End of Her Performance One Judge Was Hugging Her on Stage

Aspiring singer Anna Clendening stunned “America’s Got Talent” judges this week with a touching rendition of “Hallelujah,” but it was her personal story of overcoming the odds that really tugged at their heartstrings.

After taking the stage, Clendening, 20, told the judges that she suffers from an anxiety and depression disorder that has profoundly impacted her life, often times leaving her with panic attacks and an inability to leave the house.

“I suffer from anxiety and depression disorder, so about two or three months ago I was bedridden and I hadn’t left my house in a couple months,” she told the judges.

Further explaining the impact of her illness, the Chapel Hill, North Carolina, native said, “It felt like my mind had given up on me … I didn’t see a future.”

Despite her intense anxiety, Clendening mustered the courage to sing her heart out in front of millions of Americans, crediting her parents with helping her make the audition decision.

Watch her moving “Hallelujah” performance below:

The judges each voted for Clendening to move on in the competition, with radio host Howard Stern voicing just how touched he was by her performance.

“You’re the first singer to come out here and give me the chills,” he said.

she's a Beauty but
Sorry I hate people who use the pity vote.

either they can sing or not, But when they start asking for Pity,
as a Judge I would have given her a 0 .

and I also refuse to listen to her sing

Pity or not, this girl can flat out sing and will get votes deservingly so based on her voice alone. You wouldn't make a very good judge if your willing to give a 0 without even judging the talent. Lol.

well first off as I suggest, I'd black list her if I was in charge of singers,
on the grounds she is going for pity vote, which we all know can overshadow talent.

If they want to have a Talent contest that half the vote goes by pity
why not start a show called "Pity-Party" & let contestants come on stage
tell the audience they are struggling than scream out a religious tune.
and have all church ladies as judges & give everyone a 10 :(

Just don't mention talent unless the talent is to spin a yarn, that makes people
all warm and fuzzy as they listen. :tongue3:

Now as I said I didn't listen to her, but Talent ? is there a big calling for singers who can
get tears flowing then sing Hallelujah ?

My guess she'd sell a few records to friends, family, & the pity party , However I doubt her
so called talent will get her a record deal. I think if they wanna go by talent
the contestants need to write their own songs & music, & Not talk to or be seen by
anyone until after they have been listened to and voted on.

unless of course their talent is their looks
& she looks like she may have that talent if she'd use it on stage.

Fortunately I haven't watched any of these talent shows since the Gong Show proved it wasn't what your talent is, it's who the Judges & producers feel will make them look good voting for. :unhappysmiley:

But of course this is just my opinion (Pet Peeve) about contests.

Honestly ! I'm surprised Howard didn't call her out on it, and tell her to at least remove her shirt to sing.
He must be softening up, under threat of fines, or desperate for air time these days :icon_scratch:

I can see where Jeff is 'coming from'. I feel a lot like him; but I listened to the song. Yes, she is a great talent in my opinion. Her voice is amazing, she plays the guitar quite well, and she is absolutely beautiful. If they had not made all the hoopla about her 'condition', I would have voted her a '10' after hearing only a few seconds of her voice. If the song had been something that I liked more, I might have 'fallen love with her'!! It's a great song, but just not my kinda music. Because of the big todo about her condition, I feel that I couldn't have voted. If I had been one of the judges, I would have stated that I could not be certain that my knowledge of her condition affected my judgment or not and prevented me from voting.
