For pennies. I was at an event where people were selling coins, there were 3 large bottles filled half way with pennies supposedly from 1930-1999. they were marked: $1 $1 and $1.25. I bought them all hoping for some wheat pennies and assuming that they were all counted at face value.
I get home and dump them on my desk and immediately see wheat ears.
I paid $3.25 for the pennies, there was $3.23 there, 2 cents short which is no problem with me due to the large amount of wheat pennies in it.
Out of the 323 coins, 87 were wheat pennies, (~27%) or realistically a little more than 1 in 4 pennies were wheats.
Here is a list of the following dates:
3x 1930
3x 1934
3x 1935
3x 1936
3x 1937
3x 1938
3x 1939
4x 1940
2x 1941
3x 1942
3x 1944
2x 1945
3x 1946
4x 1948
3x 1949
4x 1950
3x 1951
3x 1951d
3x 1952d
3x 1953
3x 1953d
3x 1955
3x 1955d
2x 1956
3x 1956d
3x 1957
3x 1957d
3x 1958
3x 1958d
...I do not know why most of the coins came in sets of 3, possibly someone put them in ~3 per year? Anyway, I am not complaining. My second best penny score contained 32 wheats in a $25 penny box.(1.28%)
Also opened $350 in machine wrapped half dollars, so far no silver, but I did get a 2010p and a Barak Obama painted half dollar... 2 keepers. Surprisingly, I cannot find a picture of this Obama half dollar on google images, but some paint is partially chipped off. I will card it so it doesn't get damaged anymore.
Thanks for reading, HH!
