Buying Spanish Cobs Online???

I was wondering if anyone buys Spanish Cobs online? I know eBay is a big place.

I have been using www.eTreasureHunting.com for a while and they have been great! Has anyone else used them before? They also pull alot of inventory from eBay.

Good luck finding some cobs!

Sorry but I could never understand buying cobs, no enjoyment satisfaction in that to me. I mean you can go out with a good land/water detector and enjoy the thrill of the hunt...may not find cobs but theres othere stuff like gold and silver items...

I agree. I've bought lots of cobs both silver and copper and they are just boring after awhile. My dug indian cents bring me more pleasure because I recall the hunt and find. And too, one never really knows for sure if the ebay cobs are legitimate. I now suspect as much as 95% are old or new fakes (can't prove it).

It's a reale (real) depressing experience to have a coin dealer show you a fake cob made by a master! You'd almost swear Captain Kidd held it himself! If you ever see one you'll most likely never buy any cob again.

Skilled silversmiths in China and elsewhere can fake these so easily it's not funny. They can even fake the weight, edges, surface texture, color, and corrosion! Take any silver coin, run it through a rock tumbler, and put it into the ocean (or China Sea) or mud pond for a few years and see how reale (real) it looks. That's a good profit for the Chinese craftsman making slave labor wages. Just because a cob is corroded doesn't mean it's real. Ever notice all that "ancient" ocean found pottery online? lol!

Now I only buy cobs from people I know are actually hunting them. All my copper cobs come from actual sites. All my silver cobs come from treasure hunters I either know personally or their fame is well established. Their cobs are usually 2 to 10 times the price of the ebay stripe but there's a lot to say for buying genuine.

Best get out and hunt. If we face up to it, the hunt really is the big thing like rob2646 wrote.

Rob and Michigan are 'right on'. Another way to get cobs is to sign up on a crew boat that hunts these artifacts--with a permit, of course.
