I found 3 of these today within a few inches of each other. This one is in the best shape. Any idea on what kind of buttons they are?

rotate 90 degrees clockwise and I see a crown at the top. do you have a picture of the reverse?

The back had a ring for attaching it to cloth. It fell off during cleaning. I currently have this button and another in olive oil. I'm hoping after a 24 hour bath and some more toothpick cleaning that I can provide a better picture.

Nice find
Be careful cleaning buttons. If its valuable, and you damage, you could severely depreciate the value.
It could be old military, or a decorative coat button. Im leaning towards decorative civilian, but im no expert by any means.
Is it a flat button, or a 2-piece?.
Many old buttons have backmarks. backmarks can help id buttons.
Need more pics
The "Cleaning and Preservation" section here is a good resource. lots of good reads.

I rotated the photo so you see the crown easier.
