Re: Buttons? Pins? TWO different finds.

Nice finds...

The first one, seems the initials are U S N A (United States Naval Academy?).

Did some googling and found a site that talked of a Marine metal screw on button. Marine screw on lapel button. Brass. 1" X 1"

The top one looks like the screw on type. But the link to the picture was not working :(. Here's the site though: http://www.tias.com/39/InventoryPage/15542/1.html

I know this site says Marines...but the Navy could have some too :)

Don't know about the other one....but nice finds :)

Ivan,
I found this piece about 4" down in the side yard of the picture in my post. I wonder if this large house used to be used as a hospital?

Re: Buttons? Pins? TWO different finds.

Of course you know it's a collar brass... and I agree that it's USNA. United States Naval Academy.

LMAO... Unless PBK sets it right below... then I'll change my mind! ::)

Do you think the second one is made to represent a bullseye? Marksmanship medal of some sort? Monty

The USNA monogram item is a World War I U. S. National Army enlisted man's collar disk.

PBK,
You are da' Man! Thank you for the ID on the collar disc.

I had this reply today from another guy on the internet too. He had a better picture of one on his site. I posted it on this thread.
Doug,

That is a WW1 era collar disk. The USNA & a Branch of Service (infantry, cavalry, artillery, etc) disc were worn on the soldier's collar.
The USNA stands for United States National Army. The USNA were the divisions made up of draftees. The low number infantry divisions were Regular Army (full time). These are divisions like the 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The middle numbers like 28, 29, 30, 42nd were National Guard divisions. The high number divisions, like the 80th were National Army (draftees).
Hope that helps,
Brian

So that puts your find as 1917 to 1920.

Jim,
I'm an idiot when it comes to history. Wasn't WW1 from 1914-1918?
Thanks,
MM

My dates came from the text PBK provided that stated when the United States National Army existed... so I figured the date of your collar disk was from that... WWI was from 1917-1918 for U.S. involvement... right? Earlier for other countries?

I'm history-tarded
