In an area of the woods about 3 feet in diameter I recovered 17 of these DOT buttons. Nearby there was the digging tool and old toothpaste tube. There was also an old water spigot with some copper tubing.
This area used to be a church campground in the 1920's but I do not know if there ever was a house. No visible signs of a basement but the land is solid bedrock down a couple feet and is about 150' away from an old sandstone quarry.
Any thoughts as to why the concentration of so many buttons in such a small area?
