A brass 1-piece flatbutton with a backmark saying "Extra Treble" in indented (not raised) lettering dates from about 1810 into the 1830s. Most of the ones dug in the US were made in Britain and imported here because at that time the infant American button-making industry could not even come close to manufacturing enough metal buttons to meet the demand level from the clothing industry.

English button, first half of of the 19th century.

"treble" = three gold coats. Gilded buttons were an early export good of Great Britain and you´ll find them frequently over the world.
