Early 1800s... requardless of face differences, with the same quality mark (back mark) it's a safe bet that the dates coincide. It looks like Albert's book lists that mark - someone with a copy of that book should be able to respond with more information?

Well, Mikey Puppy.....It was sewn to a piece of clothing with a needle and thread....usually in an area that would be opened and closed like the front of a shirt, jacket, or a pair of pants. Then when said article of clothing needed to be closed, you would take the button and push it through a hole, called a buttonhole, on the opposite side of said article of clothing thusly closing up said article of clothing. ::)

Thanks for that intriguing suggestion to how it might have been possibly used, I will wait for others to respond before i concure but you just might be on to something!!
