long stem ,
thick with raised side walls,
says sheffield jackson has some kind of pattern on it..
needs to be cleaned a little better, nice green patina..mxt just loved it.
screamed bloody murder on it...
thank...any Idea wood be helpful...

Here is a guess without seeing a picture. It may be a brass saw label. I have one with the SPEAR & JACKSON SHEFFIELD markings. The center has S J under a crown. Does yours measure approx. 25 mm or just under 1 inch in diameter?

liftloop, the attached photo shows some brass saw labels. The ones in back show the back sides with the attachment posts. The label in the middle of the front row is a Spear & Jackson label. The company was founded in 1760 under a different name and became Spear & Jackson in 1830. They are still in existence and the company is now a subsidiary of SNH Global. If you do a Google Image search for Spear & Jackson brass saw label, you can see images of the labels attached to wood saw handles. Hope this helps.

I always refered to those as saw medallions.
