Here is a guess without seeing a picture. It may be a brass saw label. I have one with the SPEAR & JACKSON SHEFFIELD markings. The center has S J under a crown. Does yours measure approx. 25 mm or just under 1 inch in diameter?

UH OH MAYBE I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE EYE DR.OFFICE , CAUSE I DONT SEE IT WITH MY NEWER GLASSES ....

that's it... thanks ..wish i learn to up load picture's, should get a camera first.., and how old is it.what a brass saw label, like in sawing wood saw..

liftloop, the attached photo shows some brass saw labels. The ones in back show the back sides with the attachment posts. The label in the middle of the front row is a Spear & Jackson label. The company was founded in 1760 under a different name and became Spear & Jackson in 1830. They are still in existence and the company is now a subsidiary of SNH Global. If you do a Google Image search for Spear & Jackson brass saw label, you can see images of the labels attached to wood saw handles. Hope this helps.
