thanks ironhorse. just a quick ? if i may. Does white/pot metal stay that shiny if its in the dirt for a long time?

It corrodes differently than some other metals

Depending the length of time in the ground, it should stay relatively shiny if its been in for a short time in favourable soil conditions, but in unfavourable conditions and for a period of time it will break down a deteriorate rapidly

to me it's similar to modern zinc Lincoln cents, they blister and disintegrate in a short time

to me, your button doesn't appear to have been in the ground for a really long time
