I think is the front part of an early 1900's coveralls button. It would have had a smaller piece held on by the wire. Looks like it might be made out of zinc.

I did some research and found that AJ Tower CO was in business at least since 1875 (Boston directory).

"Eager P. B., Tower, & Co.(A. J. Tower and G. R. Eager),oil clothing, &c.102 Fulton,house at Newton"

Here is an 1890 coat with the AJ Tower buttons.

:icon_thumleft: I stand corrected. thanks for the info. :notworthy: I've dug quite a few of these over the years and just always figured they were coverall buttons.
