Hello

Had found this some time ago, but just getting around to it now.

Size : 28mm

Reverse : Manufacture's name:
Reynolds & Co.
50 South Martins Lane
London

Obverse : A sword with two lions
Text under the coat of arms : Pro Rege Dimico
Silver plated.

I have looked it up on the net and found this information:

Family of Dymoke, family crest and coat of arms:
Sword with two lions

Scrivelsby, Lincolnshire, Honourable the King's Champion:
Family Dymoke
Motto Pro Rege Dimico : For King and Dymoke I fight for the king

The current and 34th Queen's Champion and 33rd Lord of the Manor of Scrivelsby, 7th Lord of the Manor of Telford, and of the Manor of Scrivelsby, Thornton and Dalderby, patron of the living of Scrivelsby-cum-Dalderby, and Queen's Champion is Lieutenant-Colonel John Lindley Marmion Dymoke, MBE DL Royal Lincolnshire Regiment.

He acted as Standard-Bearer of the Union Flag at the coronation service of Her Majesty The Queen in 1953. His eldest son and heir is Francis Dymoke, a chartered accountant and estate owner.

Although I did not find this on his estate I did visit the Colonel on September 19, 2003. He is a pleasant man who knows much. Will try to visit him again next month.

Why place this here?

Well I don't know how old it is. Anyone know where to look or the age of the button?

I think most livery buttons would fall around 1820-1840. Pretty sure I've seen the Martins Lane makers mark several times so might be easy to track down a tighter time frame finding another button online with the same backmark.

Thanks IP, will try that.

IP, I found this one, looks almost the same. The dating of this was between 1870 and 1895. So that should be it I am thinking. Thanks

If that's right and it probably is, I obviously need a lesson on Livery buttons. I do think some date to when I said, but guess they went on for many years. I've never really looked into them, just thought most were pre 1850, but that could be wrong.
