Found this button on land that dates back to the late 1700's. Button is indented and has London Superfine on back. I was wondering about time period and if I could trace it back to the maker. I am not sure if the hole in the middle was drilled or the button just damaged. Thanks

this button was imported in from England and I would think it dates between 1790-1830.

I would say the button was drilled into.. Out of the 100s of flat buttons I have dug, I do not recall any that have a nicely placed hole in it like this that i have dug.. Plenty of ones I have dug that have been mangled up, shank missing, etc. But - I do not recall one with a hole like this that is neatly drilled out. So i do not know why someone would have drilled a hole into a button like this...
