I have done some looking but no luck yet. Any chance you could get us a little better pic. Most eagle buttons have a shield on the breast of the bird, but yours doesn't seem to have one. Also are there some stars around the top?
What part of the world did you find it in?
No. We don't know but we think it's made of copper or brass. Is it made of lead.?
Ya, I agree. It's probrably what I say it is. I just hope someone could find something directly related to this. But I just think everyone is stumped.those dome shape buttons were very common back in the Andrew Jackson era... If I had to take a pick i'd say the button was produced sometime in the mid 1820s to the 1830s and may have been worn even well after in the 1840s (since jackson era was from 1825-1845) which pretty much puts it in the time frame of the mexican-american war... just my two cents, not sure if it's military or not.. nice find
I have a couple more I'll post.It believe it is a "variant" of either AY-66 or GI-66 or GI-79G. We know that "unlisted/unpublished" variants of those 1820s/30s buttons exist. Some have shown up here in the What-Is-It? forum during the past decade. Unfortunately, in the single photo you provided the small details of the emblem (such as the shield) on yours are too worn-down for us to be sure which one of the possibilities it is (AY-66, GI-66, or GI79G).
Lol.Ok, I'm probably just nuts, but if you enlarge the image of the front so that it takes up the whole screen and look only at the lower right quadrant, what do you see? I see people there, like ladies in dresses milling about like spectators. I also began to wonder if the eagle were possibly a griffon (griffin, gryphon) facing to the left, with only the wing on the right really being a wing, and the other being, I dunno, an ostrich feather? Anyway, I'll stop there so I don't embarrass myself too badly... Probably too late for that.
