Please post a picture of the back. The backmark will help ID which variety of an early Navy button you have. Also the number of stars around the edge will help. I can't tell if there are 15 or 16.

Its hard to tell but all it says is “Treble” on top and “Guilt” on the bottom. There is no mention of Orange

Nice old button. Isnt that War of 1812 era?

The raised letters on your "Treble Gilt" backmark would date it to the late 1700s- 1810s. Can you count the stars on the front?

Hi, THis is the one that I am thinking. Funny how there are 16 stars but the date is 1811-1829. There were only 16 states between the years 1796 and 1803. The one slight variation of mine compared to the above is that on the back there is no mention of Orange. Just Treble Guilt. I think this can be marked as solved. Thanks everyone. I guess its not worth much huh?

Congrats powersurg, wonderful find! I don't know about the monetary value but it would sure go in my showcase!

I had an ancestor that hauled barrels of gunpowder to the US Navy in the war of 1812. He hauled it from somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley to somewhere around Fredericksburg. His freight company is still in operation today. Cahones!

Best wishes and keep swingin!

Yes, it was in my backyard. The crazy thing is that I’ve been pulling one flat button after another out of the yard. It’s not like I live on an old battle field either. I’ve checked old maps and my land used to be part of a much larger farm that went back to pre revolution. It’s only in one area of my yard I’m finding them. Apparently there was a lot of human activity in that area and it’s killing me I don’t know what it was.
