Please post a picture of the back. The backmark will help ID which variety of an early Navy button you have. Also the number of stars around the edge will help. I can't tell if there are 15 or 16.

The raised letters on your "Treble Gilt" backmark would date it to the late 1700s- 1810s. Can you count the stars on the front?
That is a very cool find. And it was in your backyard?
Yes, it was in my backyard. The crazy thing is that I’ve been pulling one flat button after another out of the yard. It’s not like I live on an old battle field either. I’ve checked old maps and my land used to be part of a much larger farm that went back to pre revolution. It’s only in one area of my yard I’m finding them. Apparently there was a lot of human activity in that area and it’s killing me I don’t know what it was.
Congrats powersurg, wonderful find! I don't know about the monetary value but it would sure go in my showcase!
I had an ancestor that hauled barrels of gunpowder to the US Navy in the war of 1812. He hauled it from somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley to somewhere around Fredericksburg. His freight company is still in operation today. Cahones!
Best wishes and keep swingin!
