I am aware of the many qualifying factors to be considered when attempting to identify an object from a bygone era however, I gotta add this:

As we know a great many Confederate buttons (indeed Confederate supplies and equipment in general) made during the war of 1861 were made by small shops throughout the South and in comparison to the myriad of these a much smaller number were actually "standardized".
That being the case, the "floral" design was a very common theme in a lot of those supplies, as was of course the "star" motif with Texas troops.
This hasn't been mentioned yet and should be considered before we dismiss it, in my opinion.
Great find in any case, and I can see why y'all have worn it out Deno!

So this is 1cm across?

The front looks like brass but the back like pewter or lead to me. Can you confirm what it's made of?

Best Wishes,

Thanks Sky Pilot & Buckles, I think its pewter and it is the size of
an average flat button. Weaver was hoping it was Confederate.
This was found at an old mill site in Taylorsville KY, the Confederates
did burn down the Court house here and the mill is just down the road.
A couple of years ago Weaver found a Kentucky Military Institute button here,
there have also been a couple of eagle buttons found here.
Thanks again for looking. Thanks to whoever fixed my pictures.

....Of course...I really do no know....but the Patina sure looks like some of the early Texas Buttons.....I mean this button could predate the Confederacy........Joe

It's the size of a regular shirt button and heavy for it's size.
Im not sure what you mean by regular shirt button. ... Is it smaller or larger than a Mercury dime?
