seen this laying on the ground in the dirt after the bottle cleaning just smaller than a dime , 23/32nd of a inch in dia , back mark of robinson extra, the eagle has a d in the shield any idea's on time frame ?

Check Alphaeus Albert's button book. You should be able to match up the backmark with a specific date range. It looks CW to me.

close as i can figure for a date on this is 1840s-1850s ,, thanks ya'll for help and info,,,,,, happy huntinn ya'll

Not always. Because many of these buttons were issued before the war. They could have been used by either side. It really depends on where it was found. Awesome find in amazing condition.
