Button Solved

Hi all, I could use a little help with this button. Maybe someone could provide me a good link to a button page. I've found many flat buttons over the years, but one with this mark. I can make out a W NGTON. I don't think it's anytype of George Washington button but like I said I have never seen this mark on any of the buttons I have found. It is 21 mm in diameter with a plain front. Thanks much, Bedfordbob

How about "WELLINGTON"? I believe that it may be a c. 1815-16 commemorative backmark button produced after the Duke of Wellington's victory at Waterloo. Gilt buttons, generally plain faced, with patriotic or political backmarks were quite popular in that era.

Jgas posted a similar button here on TNet almost a year ago.

Nice find. Wow PBK, you dug that one up from my vault. Yep found that last season. Did a ton of research on it as well and really didn't find too much about it though. Hard to find pics of those style buttons with that back mark. Definately an old one and a great find.... jgas....

I also have this button and mine says, clear as day, "WILLINGTON". It's not found in the button encyclopedia so I too am looking for info on it...

Hi All, I agree that Willington is a good possibility for this button but flat buttons with Washington on the back do exist. A couple months ago we went digging and one of my buddies left a plastic bag of junk finds at my house, I didn't know what or who's they were so I looked through them and there was a couple of flat buttons in the bag. As always I checked their backs and one had a federal eagle (like on GW's) and the word Washington plain as day on the back, so just sayin
By the way, as hard as it was to do, I figured out who's finds they were and returned the button to him
