Hello All,
Found this button here off N Druid Hills Road in Dekalb County, Ga just north of Clear Creek. Brass with a rusted metal back. Crown over exploding cannon ball? with a rod through the middle vertically. Oak or laural leaf motif each side. Back encrusted with rock and dirt rusted together. No idea of origin, period or purpose, but maybe a coat button. I appreciate an ID on this one. Thanks, marco001

It's a thistle, so probably Scottish military button and the crown dates it into the 1900s.

No, Similar but the crown is rounded at top on mine and the oak leaf? brackets larger and thicker.

That fashion button is the design but my button looks to have been in the ground about 150 years, very heavy patina and rust with dirt caked, definately naturally occuring. Thanks, marco001

It could be an old blazer button. No doubt the design is also old. Need to check UK military Navy buttons to be sure. I looked but didnt see it but I didnt look hard. http://www.colchestertreasurehunting.co.uk/navy buttons.htm Iron back doesnt seem to go well with Navy saltwater environment where the buttons would fall off, but I dont really know.

Now you lost me. Navy?

LOL Forget what I said. I was thinking of another button apparently. One with an anchor. :D I removed my comment because it was obviously a mistake.

Thats what happens when I post too many threads at the same time I guess. I got mixed up or I might be hallucinating anchors. :dontknow: It could still be old fashion design. Crown over thistle, oak leaves. Im sorry I didnt spend very much time looking.

Try this link. http://www.colchestertreasurehunting.co.uk/Militaryindex.htm
Maybe the UK guys can find it. The only example I can find is fashion but Im not good with British items.
