looks like a ESCUTCHEON (FACE PLATE ) TYPE ITEM with the squarish looking hole in it ---- it might have been nailed on with a iron "square nail" on a trunk as a decroative piece - or it may have had a squarish iron type shaft go thru it as part a dresser drawer pull set up. :icon_thumright:

I think its a plate on the dresser that the drawer pull went thru, looks 18th century too

I have never seen a furniture piece with such a rudimentary piece like this. Usually furniture pieces look a little more refined to me. Even in the 17th century.

With the flat back & design on the front has to be.
The closes to a match I could find. And would be how it must of looked some what rather nail or this pin deal :dontknow: Was not a drawer pommel though with that rust in the hole.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

except for the round hole vs square (handle) hole type hole -- please look at crusader's post above this one --- item in link #1 above is a clear match * even the decroative designs on it are similar -- as I said -- it a part off a dresser *** -- a decroative ESCUTCHEON " face plate" that the pull handle shaft goes thru .-- its a simple crudely designed one. -- for simple "common" folks furniture of that time frame -- nice find by the way.--for here in the USA -- its a quite common type find in england I'm sure . -- so most likely either a british imported dresser or a locally made american "copy" of british style item.

green check please.
