Button makers name???

Usually, when a brass 1-piece flatbutton's backmark says "Double Gilt" it does not include the maker's name, but instead, a location. So, I suspect your button's backmark most likely said something like "Double Gilt London."

Some general guidelines from the internet...

I suspect your button says something like ' * NO. 2 * '. Or maybe some other number. It doesn't really look like a '2' to me...

Brass 1-piece flatbuttons with an indented (not raised) lettering backmark date from about 1810 into the 1830s.
