No writing on the back, and slightly curved like a bowl but otherwise flat... A little larger than the circumference of a penny ( :::::

Can anyone maybe tell me a date... or more about the style... Found in an area that is known for 1880 history and older here in Arizona.

Very nice button. I'm guessing it's a Victorian era 'story button'. Except I don't know the story... :dontknow:

The seated figure appears to be an African or Moorish nobel. The kneeling figure appears to carry a Christian cross.

At first, I thought it was the Pope. But I don't know of any Pope who had a parrot and used a fan of feathers...

I would also agree with a Victorian era button. They put all kinds of fancy things on the buttons back then. A lot of them were used on jackets and blazers. I found one with a great blue heron on it the other day.

I thought it to be a representation of Palm Sunday, the parrot is a dove, maybe? Work with me on this one...

Nice find OP!

How about 'Desdemona on her knees listening to Othello the Moor'? That fits the Victorian mold well...

I searched a little more and found Victorian era buttons depicting 'The Tempest', 'Hamlet', and 'Midsummer's Night Dream'.

I didn't find a match to yours but you're safe calling it a Victorian story button that MAY be Shakespearean.

That makes metal detecting sound sophisticated and classy, doesn't it? Dig a hole and learn Shakespeare!

But beware the curse of Shakespeare's grave:

Good friend for Jesus sake forbeare, To dig the dust enclosed here.
Blessed be the man that spares these stones, And cursed be he that moves my bones.

I agree, that it must be a famous story with a Queen? seated someone kneeling with a cross? & a parrot. It looks like similar 1880s types.
