I found this in Eastern NC, been trying to figure it out. Just not sure if button or not.
Looks like an English Griffin that you see on coat of arms. has one paw up, looks like it is pewter and looks octagon.
It is .64 in so just over half, but smaller than Lincoln one cent. Has a weird reverse, it just does not look like a shank. Any ideas?

Yep the very same button, mine still has the glue/cement in it, which make me think more decoration than button... i was hoping someone here has seen one before and could shed some light on what it might be. Still a nice find

I think it is the screw-on or snap-on top to a foil tube (like a toothpaste tube), with some of the tube's mouth torn off and still stuck in the bottom of the octagonal cap.

I can see that, i have done some searching for that and have not come up with anything yet, I did find there use to be shoe polish co named Griffin, but the tubes had a black screw on cap with Griffin written in it. but at least i have something to go on Thanks Cannonballguy

No question it is the Griffin leather care logo. You guys are right on with the "squeeze tube cap". They registered that logo in 1924.
