Please help ID this Waterbury. I have reconstructed it with all I found. It is the size of a Union Staff Officer coat button. Obvious markings include the center star, and the word ROUTE. I found this while hunting near (100 yards) a union camp in Missouri. Other military items were found near it including a dropped .69 cal and sling hardware. But so were a civilian button and some other civilian brass from the same general period and into the early 1900's.

It is a career uniform button and would read "Gulf Route" if it was all there. Waterbury does not say if it was related to railroad, steamship or other transportation and I haven't been able to find anything else on it. The Waterbury Button Co. w star backmark dates to the late 1800s.
