A friend dug this yesterday. Trying to ID it all I can make out on the backmark is PLATED. It is a flat one piece as well. Thanks in advance and HH!

Unless I have overlooked it I can't find your button in Albert's or Tice's books. All of the ones even vaguely similar have stars around the edge. Now, watch someone post it with the correct ID!:laughing7:

In Albert's book, page 32, item number 56 is a close representation of your button. The shield is a bit different..

I need to add it was found in a confederate camp site. I found this palmetto button 30 yards from his button. There have been several block I's and SC buttons found there as well.

How large is the button? If it is a vest or cuff the design may not look exactly the same as a coat would.

I don't have the exact measurements but I'll say about the size of a nickel.

Cool button with the offset shield. Hope you get an ID.
