Button ID

The first two pics are a button like item I dug in a 1860s yard. I never thought much of it until I saw a guy dig one online with the same rib on the back with same diamond mark where a shank may have been. He was on a colonial site.

The next pic is a early button for my area, can anyone help ID it by the shank style? Seems to have a silver wash finish. It was found in a home/camp site pre and post civil war.

The last two gold colored buttons came from a early 1900s yard. Curious on age. They seem hollow. No marks.

You nailed it there. I guess window 6 on the house never was quite as tight....
The house still stands and is a beautiful historic home. Just hate all the slate tile nails in the yard!!!!

Yup, dating from the mid to late 1700's.

That’s incredible!!! It came off our own property right on the Mississippi River bluffs. French and Spanish claims here dating from the very late 1700s. The remains are all but gone and only some of use are lucky enough to find trade lead, trade copper, and some other trinkets. The fur trade era is my main target and this site has produced some good relics. That is the earliest history of white man in this area. I’m jacked!!!

Would these have been used by French/Spanish/British? Any of them? I’m trying to determine who settled this site first. Many of my buttons are 1830s-1870s many union eagle. But that beauty is much older!

Sorry, had another look. The one with the seem on the reverse looked like a pewter button, but I'm now not sure if its the reverse of the 'C' type nail?

Anyways, the Tombac Button is most likely British however they were used in mainland Europe as well, including Germany.

Yep, nhbenz got right of way with it being a number 9 window tack. Thanks for the info on the tombac. I have several buttons marked London from here as well.
