I am assuming this is a 2 piece button.....still very new at this.

Safe to say 1800's, others can dial in a better time period...tough to say the company if there is no writing. Good luck

It is indeed a brass 2-piece button, and it is a civilian-usage button. Are you sure there is no lettering stamped into its back? Anything you can read could be helpful in determining your button's manufacturer, and its time-period.

I used a toothbrush and water. How is the best way to clean it better?

To clean an excavated inexpensive civilian button, I use ordinary household Ammonia, soaking the button in it for 2-to-3 minutes, rinsing very thoroughly afterward. If necessary, repeat the ammonia-soak for a couple more minutes.
