Button seems to be copper with iron back 2C7B8EE7-3761-4C04-9A4D-7DDFB0B01AE1.webp48D7F475-4BE2-4D06-9CDF-A34F642FCD87.webp483AD9E2-E043-4F82-89AC-2180FD7490F4.webp

We need better photos, especially showing the object's back. I can't make out any design or emblem on its front... it might be blank exept for the concretion/corrosion. In the only back-view you provided, the object doesn't look like a button. It looks more like a domed brass "foot" from a carpetbag (or other luggage), or a "skid-disc" from a trunk. See the domed brass discs on the bands of the trunk in the photo.

Thank you for making and posting the additional photos... closeup and well-focused. :)

I still don't see any emblem/design on the domed brass disc's front. Also, I don't see any backward "foldover" of the rim, which is needed to hold a button's back-piece in place... so I'm certain it is not a button. (You can see what I mean by saying "foldover" in Figure II in the button-construction diagram attached below.) The rust in the back must be from an iron stud (nail) wgich fit into the pedestal at the center of the dic's back, for attaching it to something. So I'm sticking with my original ID of it... a carpetbag/luggage "foot" or skid-dsic from a trunk, as shown in the photo in my previous reply.

The reason antique carpetbag/luggage "feet" are made of brass:
If your luggage got wet, which was a common occurrence in the era of horse-drawn transportation, brass "feet" (and skid-discs) would not leave a rust stain on your rug (or the hotel's carpet).

I am thankful for this site and people like Thecannonballguy for their detailed knowledge that helps bring back the history of items that may not be recognizable to others. It’s great to find neat historical items but even greater when knowledgeable people help to I’d them.
Thanks again to Thecannonballguy for this ID
