it is a "fouled anchor" motif and although looking militarish, it was very common on blazers used by civilian folk even today. There are lots of varieties so maybe one of our button experts can pin it down for sure as to civilian or military.

Pic of the back would be very helpful.

Is the button brass or pewter?

The inboard facing cannons are intriguing and I have yet to see a civie button with that. Actually I have never seen a button like this either civie or military. I went through my books and can't find a match.

Also, is it one or two piece? Is there a legible backmark? I too, am curious. Maybe something to do with the Canadian military or a school up there.

It's a War of 1812 period British Royal Navy Transport Service button. Definitely not a common one to dig so a good find.

I suspected it was a military button but could not pull it up in any of the reference material I have; online or books.

What should I be adding to my arsenal if you care to share?

What I like is the strange combo of Anchor & Cannon!

I have never seen this one among the better reference material for the British Royal Navy issues buttons. Not really sure why that is because because so similar to the others I would think suggests it's an issued officer button.

Thanks Iron Patch where did you find the information on it

Bought one years ago and tracked it down. It was the first I had seen, but since then they show up every once in a while... mostly in the UK of course. It's a cool button and one I'd like to find but a pretty slim chance of that happening.
