Good Day gentleman!

Today my grandfather gave me a button he found while metal detecting on his property about 30 years ago...
from what I can see it says ANDREAS 50FER 1809

any ideas?

That's an interesting commemorative button, BjC! The "5" is actually an "H." Although I can't offer any detailed information about the button itself, here's a link to a biography of Andreas Hofer:

Strange how mine barely has an edge around it, the one pictured on ebay has a beaded edge...

I'm taking it to my antique dealer tomarrow... he seems to know alot about this stuff, and i've gotten his help before on things like this.
I'll let you guys know if I find out anything... and please let me know if you come across anything that could help me

OK update, found this site http://andreas-hofer.info/credits.html it's a tribute site to Andreas Hofer and someone found this medalion in eastern Canada, I emailed the people who run the site and hope to hear from them soon

This morning I recieved an email from the historian on the website and he dosn't know much about the button either
Looks like I'm screwed on this one

Since the lettering on yours is lacking the bead and the words and date are running off the edge do you think that perhaps it was filed or then again maybe a manufacturing error if the slug was smaller when stamped.

Just a thought.

Sent pictures with as much info as I could to Christie's appraisals. It's free and I'm sure its not worth anything but I'm curious and want to make sure. 4-6 weeks for a reply, ugh
