I can't tell from the 2nd pic, but is the same scene on the back as on the front? If not, what is it? Breezie

Yes its the reverse of the front as if it was stamped then the button hole soldered on. The other stuff from this property dates 1860-1940ish.

Okay, one more question: Is the shank a 'loop' or is it a 'post' type like you would see on overalls/bluejeans?

Judging by the way the couple is dressed, and by the drapery style in the background, I'd say the scene on the button is representing the early Victorian era.

:icon_scratch: So it's stamped from the back :dontknow: and the loop looks of centre :icon_scratch: what do you think it's made from, this is a strange one.

Just wondering with the loop close to the top, could it be a medallian:dontknow:r

It appears to be off center because it has been bent over I dare not bend it back. It came up as a zinc penny or bronze

In the Victorian era, some one-piece buttons were made, often with decorative designs like yours. I have dug a few of these over the years. I bet that's the time frame your button is from.

Best Wishes,
