A one-piece button with the "s" on "Scovill"... means it was during the decade when the two brothers operated the business.    1830's.

Agreed, Tice has it 1827-1840, I believe I have the identical button somewhere or close to it. All the old design buttons are nice artifacts to find.

Scovills was used as early as 1827 on buttons made to order by state of Texas and also in 1828 for the US Military Academy.
