Detecting in a late 1600's area today found some musket balls, modern clad and this one piece flat button. It's concave with the shank still in tack with no back mark or makers mark. The design looks to be a double eagle with a crest and crown above the eagles heads. I know the photos are not the best but hopefully some one can identify. Just wondering if it's civilian or maybe military. Thanks.

The double headed eagle, is "K und K" for Koenig und Kaiser. King and Emperor. Austria-Hungary and Russia used this symbol. Perhaps researching your area for Rev War action/camps might reveal a connection.

Hessian button? Can anyone confirm or have a good reference book?
