Button ID needed

It's a flat button. dating about 1820 to 1830. The were made earlier but makers didn't start backmarkeing them until about 1820 or so. We find quite a few in civil war camps, old house sites and some in early 1900's logging camps and such. The aren't worth mcuh but alwasy fun to find.

Probably brass and the signal was in the nickel range because of the size. That's pretty typical for most small buttons.

Iron Patch is right Also the backmark is double gilt meaning it was supposed to have a double plating of gold gilt.

Approximately correct on the dates, I might say a tad earlier, backmarks were mandatory for gilt/plated English buttons after 1796 act, and buttons were backmarked prior to the Act, but the problem was, there was no authority for ensuring a button was what the backmark said. eg: Double Gilt when it was not.....
