I posted this on the button section but guess either the section does not get much activity or if no one has any thoughts about my button, so I am posting it here:

Today I dug this button "Millers Ace High" which on the back reads "P.B.C.O. Patented Dec. 9 1924". The button I believe is brass. I assume that PBCO is perhaps the P-something Button Company. This button was dug from the side yard of a home built in the 1920-s and was being torn down.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Nice button. I've never found one that told it's date.

I believe that it is a work clothes button, patented by Franklin R. Wright of Waterbury Conn. and assigned to The Patent Button Co.

That's just the patent date. It could be around that time or I believe up to 20 years after that (for Waterbury button) . Correct me if I'm wrong

creskol is definitely correct on this one. Millers Ace High made overalls from the mid 1920's through at least the 1950's. Earliest advertisement for them I can find is May 03, 1927 in the Jefferson City Tribune Post and the latest in the Corpus Christi Times from August 24, 1954.

The button has a patent date but PBCo also stands for Patent Button Company like creskol says. The patent is an improvement on an old 4 hole advertisement button design. The button can be dated 1924-1941 (17 year patent)

Were they advertising something other than work clothes/ overalls?
I dunno... these 4 piece buttons were used on clothes particularily underwear (some of the European members tell me) and they have been found with all different kinds of advertisements. I cant remember everything, I believe they were not limited to clothing manufacturers or overalls but I didnt research every company advertised. . Silversimon used to have a great link on advertisement buttons, several color pages of examples but unfortunately the site is gone. I guess I will have to search to find some other examples. Four holed zinc advertisement buttons date back to at least the 19th century maybe older. Fig3 shows the 1924 patented improvement over fig2 type buttons which are much older. I dunno what do you think creskol? Do you think they are limited to tailors and clothing manufacturers?http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/271623-p-b-co-button.html

I also got a button with the Dec 9 1924 patent date, but all else is illegible. Houseplace site depicted on 1918 road map. A photo would not be useful. Thanks for your post.

Thanks for doing this as well as the Great Seal thread. That one has helped me many times. Might I suggest that you start a new thread about the four hole buttons so it is easier to find.
