Can't tell enough detail from your pic but it looks like a state seal button. Just not sure what state? Nice find, HH Charlie

it looks like a coat of arms with a lion standing on it's hind legs and a royal grown above it. It is slightly larger than a nickel and slightly smaller than a quarter.

Looks like a modern blazer style button, but can't be sure without the backmark. Can you post a picture of the back?

There is nothing on the back as it is rather corroded

Sorry, but to get a good ID we will need a clear picture of the front. Something for scale will help as well.

If the back is rusted, a little electrolysis will help.

If there is rust/crud on the front you can clean it with "The Must for Rust" from Krud Kutter. You can get it at most big box building supply stores. Spray on and use a nylon brush or tooth pick to get the stuff unstuck. Works on guilded buttons but will remove the patina from copper and bronze. Sometimes I just dip a toothpick in some and work on the spots. Just be gentle. Go slow. etc. It will work on the back as well but you may have to let just the back sit in a little puddle of it on a saucer.

To me it looks like a Rhode Island State Civil war Button. But as soon as we have a clear pic of the front and the back we will know for sure. But it does look to be a good find.

It is best not to use a white or very light background for your picture. It underexposes the image too much. Try a darker color background so the item will show detail and not be so dark. Even black is good. And natural light is better than flash or indoor lighting.

Help us out a bit.

I am trying to help you help me. The button is a little crushed and I have taken several pics with different backgrounds. I have ran the photos through filters adjusted temp color and contrast to try and get the most detail to show. I have tried different cameras (from a digital slr to a digital point and shoot) and to no avail. I appreciate everyones comments and attempts at ID. I will try once more to get a little more detail though.

Try a black background and use spot metering on the camera so it exposes the item in the center. Center the object. Use natural light. It will work.

Hope this helps because I don't know nothing about British Buttons.

Seems to be a UK General Service button. Backmark would help date it but I am sure someone will get it close.

Yep. Jim got it. The iron backing is a dead giveaway on these modern, blazer buttons.
