Found this today at a very old site. The site is listed as a school on an 1874 Plat Map. Now...its just a cornfield. Gained permission to hunt the area this morning. The owner said I could hunt it as much as I want until he plants the field. It is corn stubble...so it isnt easy hunting.

I did manage this button today.

It says Benedict & Burnham Patent on the back. Also says Waterbury around where it would connect to the coat/pants/etc..

My limited research says that Benedict & Burnham was the companies name from 1834-1843. However, the samples I have seen say Benedict & Burnham Extra...Mine says Benedict & Burnham Patent.

Anyway...here is the design. Not sure if anyone has seen one like it or could possibly point me in the right direction to properly identify it as being produced in the early to mid 1800's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nice early 1800s flower button... flower buttons also being generally popular during this time.

I found the same information

Benedict & Burnham operated 1834 to 1843, this is predecessor of Waterbury Button Co.  Buttons of this period are noted for very high quality and they produced a lot of Civilian buttons.

No matter what they stopped making buttons under the B & B name in 1849 and rolled into the Waterbury Company. The safe bet is 1834 to 1849.
