I don't know if this is military or civilian. The backmark says "Rich Gold Color". I've done some research and found out they were made in England for the USA between 1820-1850 for both military and civilian use, but I did not find a match to the front of this button on any of the sites. I would appreciate any help IDing this. Thanks for reading,

that type of button is called a golden age button and was made in the 1820's & 30's . They were made for civilian use but many are dug in civil war camps both union and confederate.

I used to have a good link for civilian flower buttons but the site is down. I suppose a soldier may use a flower button if he lost his and had nothing else to replace it with but I would think it classifies as civilian similar to these. http://metaldetectingworld.com/05_photo_gallery/05_us_civilian_but/index.htm

Is this the site?
