I found this button in a city park where there have been coins dating back to the early 1800's. There's an image here that describes it as a livery button. So I'm wondering if this was like a coach driver or a limo driver etc. Upon close inspection it is not the exact same button. Does anybody have a better source or does anybody know anything about it? I'm interested in knowing the age. It was either lost in mint condition or it's modern. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The "liverybuttonsidentified" website's "Rampant Lion" page shows your button as a Cunard Shipping Company uniform button.

That company has been in business for a looong time, so its buttons have been made by various different manufacturers over the decades. That explains why the small details on your button aren't quite an exact match for the one on Etsy... and also why it isn't an exact match with the one at liverybuttonsidentified. But the button's "main" details (British Royal crown at top, above a rampant lion holding a globe in its paws, with a horizontal "Torse" at bottom) are present on all three versions of the button.

For folks here who are unfamiliar with Heraldry symbols,
a Torse is a Heraldry wreath seen edge-wise.

If you will answer Fyrffytr1's question, we MIGHT be able to time-date your button.

I suggest Bookmarking/Favoriting the liverybuttonsidentified website, for obvious reasons.

Cannonballguy I Thank you for the detailed information that was probably more helpful than anything I would have encountered and helps me to understand it. I greatly appreciate the help. I'll mark this as solved since we know it's a Cunard Livery button.
