Also, it is hard to tell from the pictures but the front background has a cross hatch type design. There is also remnants of some gold gild over the whole button.

Not sure what the button is but the design of it looks like WWII-ish

Thank you HutSiteDigger. After digging around some more on the web, I've come to believe it is an early 1900's Waterbury button. There are actually a couple posts a few years back on this site about the same button. General consensus is that its non-military and possibly off of a sport coat. I will leave it unsolved until morning just in case anyone has anymore info.
