That is a flat button sometimes called a "penny" button or a 1 piece button. At any rate, whatever you want to call it, it will date to before the civil war. It would be hard to give an exact date with out any backmark information. They were very popular in the 1820's to the 1840's as a general rule but yours could be even older. See if it has any writing on the back. Tennessee digger

Couldn't see any markings on the back yet. Dem trying to slowly clean it so I can see it. Will keep trying and post a pic when I can thanks for the help

Wish these buttons sold for more but they go for $3-5 a pop. Like TN Digger was saying it could date from the late 18th century too the 1840s, Just from my experience with flat buttons it seems the ones with out back-marks (I can't see any back-mark on yours) date too the late 18th and early 19th century but without back-marks its really hard to determine the exact time period!
