Although its the right size for a late 1700s 'Dandy' Button, I've never seen one this age that has been moulded with a raised design, in fact they are all incised into a flat button. I doubt its 18th century, but its the first one I have seen like it. Is that a 'known' star sign? (not good with these)

PS. just realised the bottom is a hippocampus

Ah yes the sea horse. :icon_thumright: I was wondering what that was. That must be Neptune with a staff. I also see a flower and butterfly.

the 'butterfly' is the end of the tail. There is a 'dot' as well as a 'flower' like object, so maybe sun & moon.

Can we see a side view of the button shank? The shank appears to be the type set into the molten metal; not soldered. What type of metal is it?

Could be a depiction of Poseidon.

I agree, and think the front overrules the back on this one. I did think about it for a minute though. I'd say Livery era.
