Button help please

Our neighbor (who got us started in this darn hobby when he loaned us his MD last fall) found this button a few years back while prospecting in NC. He was near Thermal City, North Carolina and found the button in his sluice box. He thought maybe it was from the early miners. I told him I'd ask the experts. It reads nickel on our Ace 250. TIA for any help.

Nice button. I think your guess is right. PBK is good on buttons. He could probably give you a more precise answer.
Probably off a shirt or over-alls.
