Hi all. Got out for a few hunts today. Found this button on the last hunt in a corn field that sits along a very old road. Was a toll road around the turn of the 19th century at least. Do not know exactly when it originated. The button is 25 mm and a magnet does not stick to it at all. I see no back mark. When I got it home and cleaned it a bit, I could see gold colored gilding. The motif is not clear to me either. Maybe some sort of flower but definitely a plant of some sort. Hope you experts can recognize it. Thanks for looking.

The emblem on your button appears to be a cluster of grapes, with some vine-leaves. Thus, it is a Civilian-usage button, not Military. Because it is a brass 2-piece button, is goldplated, and it appears to have a circular depressed channel on the back around its thread-loop, it dates from approximately the very-late-1820s through the 1860s.

At The CBG's request, I have tried cleaning the back a bit more. These pics show what might be "WP......". I have tried a negative of the image and no more detail is evident.

Thanks to The CBG for all the identifying info and also to Steve in Pa for posting pics of identical button he had found with clearly legible back marks. I consider this to be solved. Thanks to all for looking and good luck hunting!:coffee2:
