This is a long shot. Its in bad shape, but I believe it is a one piece, so knowing that, could this be CW and or American Revolutionary war, war of 1812? I guess I am looking for an example of a button that would be this shape with the type of writing inside as a one piece. Seems like I have seen this style button before, possibly with an eagle on it. Just trying to learn more about the site. I have found tons of LA1 War of 1812 buttons at this site. Thanks. ;D

Re: Button Help.

Too bad, I'll bet it was a good one.
Try and clean it a little better to see a back mark or design on the front.
Honestly, I don't think you'll be able to, but it never hurts to try.
You must be near a fertilized field eh?

Re: Button Help.

Cleaned the button and posted new images. Seems like there are two stars or Astrix then MILITIA or EXTRA. Any ideas?

My guess is it is a plain button and it reads "GILT". I saw this post yesterday and was thinking that and then I just dug this one a few hours ago ;D

It is about 20mm.

Nice button Bram congrats. :icon_thumleft:
Mine is not flat, but may say gilt. I think it is a militia button and wonder if it says militia. I have found both War of 1812, CW buttons, but the area was also used for the British American rev war era. :-\

I can make out"EXTRA" but may not help much as it appears in many forms,Extra Quality,Extra Fine,Extra gilt, etc, but is most likely Pre CW.
